Classroom/non-fiction
This is looking slightly to the right. Some of this will be open seating with study carrels toward the windows in back. Yes, there is a door there that opens to the (small) courtyard back there too. There will be more shelving along the back wall area there too.
Continuing to swing around to the right (use the floor sander as your reference point) you can see how the open seating can also be used as a class meeting space with the white board. There will be more shelving along the back wall area there too. And see the door (aka- black hole)? That’s where I usually photograph from, to give you the perspective.
Rotating more to the right, this area will be largely low shelving for fiction. You can see the red wall the left and the counter in front is the circulation desk. The doors you can see in the red wall are office/storage space. The windows to the right of the photo are windows on a classroom. It will be so nice to have a dedicated instructional space again after being nomadic for a year and a half! Directly to the center of photo is where the main entrance of the media center will be located.
Sky! We are so excited to have natural light, and being able to see honest and true blue is an added joy.
And this is why the door was open; the guys were bringing in the carpeting. The rolls look huge, until you realize there are over a dozen of them there! It’s enough to do my whole house 6-7 times!
doors and color
November 13, 2008
The door frames are in the new media center, instead of the plain plywood. The windows along the side are open too, so you can peer in.
And if you look in you will see colors! Not a lot, but the computer area looks a lot different now doesn’t it?
It’s hard to get the color right with the lighting, but it is pretty close to the color you see along the side of this blog. The trim and the wall behind are a sandy color. You can’t see into the room there in this picture, but there is cabinetry going in along the walls.
And the pallets in front? Light fixtures for the ceilings.
Construction Update – 11/1/08
November 5, 2008
I took these photos about a week ago, but I haven’t had time to get them resized and posted. We are expecting to open the new Media Center in January and progress is coming along nicely. As these pictures were taken they were getting ready to start painting.
This is from the G-hall door. You can see the wall area of the circulation desk. It was taken in the area that will be the computer area.
This is a picture of the same area taken from the other end (standing next to where the worklight is in the first picture.)
This is the main entrance area that will be off the old Crossroads area.
This will be the main class area and some of books stacks. Look at all those lovely windows. The ones at the back will look out on a small courtyard.
Construction update 8/18
August 18, 2008
Remember that glass hallway in G-hall outside the temporary library. The one that then became a drywall hallway?
Well now it’s the “veranda”. I’m sure it will be a solid wall before school starts again, but when I went in a couple weeks ago this is what it looked like.
If you look through the plastic sheeting you can see where the new media center will be:
